Mirboo North residents urged to save water

1 min read

Gippsland Water, which services areas between Drouin and Briagolong, is urging customers in Mirboo North to conserve water until further notice.

A spokesperson for Gippsland Water has said Mirboo North was badly affected by the severe weather yesterday evening, causing widespread building damage.

“Yesterday's weather, power outages, fallen trees and communications outages caused damage across the Gippsland Water network, depleting treated water storages.

“Gippsland Water says their water is still safe to drink but free bottled water is available at the carpark on the corner of Bath's Road and Strzelecki Highway, Mirboo North.”

We need help, they say

Mirboo North resident Mark Bourke said the community feels forgotten, with residents working until dark to clean up roads.

Mr Bourke said there's no phone service and no internet, so Mirboo North residents don't really know what's going on.

"There is significant damage to houses," he said.

"There's probably at least half a dozen that I know of that are uninhabitable and there would be more than that.”

He said a relief centre was much needed for Mirboo North residents.

"And if there is one, we need to be told – somebody needs to come over and communicate it to us," Mr Bourke said.
