Police Rounds: Surge in aggravated burglaries

A SEQUENCE of aggravated burglaries has police reminding residents to ensure all their property is secured, including doors, windows and vehicles, and are urging residents to ensure vehicle keys are stored securely away from front doors with two vehicles targeted in one evening on Phillip Island alone.

An unknown number of offenders stole car keys and subsequently a Mercedes Benz C250 sedan from a residential property in Cowes overnight on July 2-3. The white vehicle was located yesterday lunchtime in the Wantirna area.

On the same evening (July 2-3), a white BMW was stolen from an address in Douglas Road, Cowes.

Anyone with information relating to either of the burglaries contact Cowes Police Station (5952 2037), Wonthaggi Police Station (5671 4100) or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

In a separate incident, unknown offenders broke into a garage in Grantville in the early hours of July 3. It’s unknown if anything was stolen at this stage during the aggravated burglary. Anyone with information contact Wonthaggi Police Station on 5671 4100 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

On July 1, offenders accessed a residential property in Cowes in the afternoon, where they proceeded to take computer and gaming equipment. The resident was present in the property at the time. Youth offenders apprehended

Last Friday, June 26, Bass Coast police apprehended two fifteen-year-olds at Wonthaggi Plaza around lunchtime. It’s alleged the two young offenders robbed youth victims stealing their personal belongings. Police responded quickly and apprehended the individuals involved at the time. The young offenders were processed accordingly.

Suspicious fire in Korumburra

Police are also investigating a suspicious fire at a factory in Korumburra on Monday evening, July 1. No persons were present when police and local fire brigades attended the blaze on the corner of Cormack Lane and Sports Lane. The fire is alleged to have been deliberately lit. Anyone with information contact Bass Coast Crime Investigation Unit on 5671 4100.

Police are urging the public to check CCTV and dashcam footage for anything that can assist police in their investigations, as well as reminding individuals that CCTV, including Ring doorbells, can be a deterrent in themselves.
