Postcards visits Mirboo North

1 min read

Channel nines travel show, Postcards, journeyed to Mirboo North and embraced the warm community atmosphere, visiting Lamezleighs Coffee House and Eatery, the Art Space and Jacican in March.

The town, showing its resilience after the storm that devastated it on February 13, appeared on the show after Jacican owner and chef Jaci Hicken, emailed Nine presenter Livinia Nixon.

“For many of the years that my husband Ernst Lenselink and I have lived in Mirboo North, Ernst worked as an engineer at the television station, commuting a couple of days a week to the studios in the Docklands,” Ms Hicken said.

“Even though I’ve been running Jacican for the past 12 years, this was the first time we contacted one of his former work colleagues.

“It was part of telling people about what we do and how wonderful Mirboo North is, especially after the publicity about how bad the February storm was.

“We have restarted promoting the business to attract more visitors, rebuilding from where we left off after the past four years of quiet times.”

Ms Nixon passed on the email to the producers at Postcards.

Postcards then organised who and when they visited Mirboo North, picking Lamezleighs and the Art Space out of the many things to do in the town.

The presenter who visited Mirboo North was Brodie Harper.

“For the Postcards filming, Brodie and I made puff pastry, which then, through the magic of television, turned into a vanilla slice,” Ms Hicken said.

“Then we enjoyed afternoon tea of all the goodies we make here.”

“I can’t tell you what else they did in town, as I was busy setting up, but I’m guessing some lovely food at the cafe and a spot of shopping at The Art Space.”

The Postcards episode featuring Mirboo North, which aired on Channel 9 this past Sunday, April 21, showcased the town’s resilience after the storm, its warm community atmosphere, and the delicious food and beautiful art it offers.
