THE San Remo community went all out again for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal with a progressive total from a range of fun activities passing the $35,000 mark by the middle of the afternoon.
The big effort was a fundraising drive through every street and past every house in the town by one of the San Remo CFA’s fire trucks, its response crew, and a team of volunteer tin rattlers on the ground.
No cash, no problem!
In these days of a virtually cashless society, the firies were armed with an eftpos machine happy to take all contributions and according to the San Remo CFA’s annual Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal organizer, Sarah Fry, the townsfolk could not have been more generous.
“The team has received a very warm and generous response as they have gone around the town with an excellent result on the day.”
The CFA combined with the San Remo Hotel, Craig Edmonds at Jim’s Bait and Tackle and other community groups and individuals to put on a range of fundraising events and activities including a town walk and treasure hunt for families, an 8km walk along the George Bass Walk with buses ferrying participants to Kilcunda, and a weekend-long fishing comp with all proceeds going to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Everyone was invited back to the San Remo Hotel for kids games, live music, a silent auction and food and drink afterwards.
