It's auction day for the The Block Island
IT’S D-day for the Phillip Island Blockheads today, Saturday, November 9 when Channel 9 stages auction day at the much-publicised Justice Road site on the edge of Cowes with all the stars, film crews, celebrity buyers and real estate auctioneers descending on the town for the big occasion.
And attracting as much attention as speculation about the auction of the five houses is the status of the relationship between House 4 villains, Kylie and Brad Baker, and whether or not they’ll be back for the grand finale.
Well, they are back for auction day and have been fully engaged in applying the finishing touches to their project as well as the marketing of the property over the past few months.
And you heard it here first folks, the Queensland plumber and his hairdresser wife, who share four children together from their seven-year marriage, have fully reconciled after “flirt gate”, their spectacular on-screen split and blow-up with The Block’s enduring host Scott Cam.
In fact, as widely reported in the national media, Brad and Kylie turned out in all their finery at the Melbourne Cup earlier in the week where they were even seen chatting with fellow Block contestants, newlyweds Mimi and Kristian Belperio, and others including “Lambo Guy” bidder Adrian Portelli in the G.H. Mumm marquee.
So, it’s onwards and upwards for today’s auctions, ahead of the grand finale of The Block on Channel 9 this Sunday night.
Most of the local real estate firms on Phillip Island have been given a property to sell with Greg Price of Alex Scott and Staff having perhaps the toughest gig, finding a buyer for Kylie and Brad’s House 4.
But last time we spoke to Greg, he was typically full of optimism for a successful outcome.
“Honestly I think House 4 is the best one on The Block,” said Greg Price of Alex Scott and Staff Cowes recently.
“It has been well designed by Brad and Kylie and the trades have provided all the finishing touches inside and out that you would expect with a showpiece property.
“But the unique selling points, I believe, are the secluded location at the back of the property and the much-publicised gate into the tennis court.
“The tennis court is part of the common property for the whole block but there’s no doubting the unique advantage it offers to the future owners of House 4 to have a gate to the court opening directly off their own yard.”
But, all is yet to be revealed about the final outcome to what has been a controversial project from day one.
There’ll be two enduring features of The Block for Phillip Island however, and that’s the way Island locals have embraced the show, and likewise the contestants and crew have interacted with townsfolk and business people during their stay, and the impact the nationwide publicity is already having on visitation to Phillip Island.
It's hard for locals to imagine, but some people around Australia and even in Victoria remained unaware of the Penguin Parade and other features of the Island until they received months of publicity on The Block.
