Comedy classic to hit the stage this week

2 min read

LEONGATHA Lyric Theatre have done it again with another incredible musical treat!

Mel Brooks’ most famous musical, “The Producers”, is about to hit the stage in glorious fashion from June 30, running through until July 15, at the beautiful Memorial Hall in Leongatha.

The hall has been incredibly transformed by a dedicated technical team into a wonderful theatre space, with staging, lighting, and sound, that is sure to wow audiences.

There are many different elements to the staging, and we can’t say too much, but we can say that what is being done with the set for this show has never been attempted in South Gippsland before, and we are very excited to showcase this technology.

Wonderful staging and technical elements would, of course, be nothing without a fabulous and incredibly talented cast on stage, supported by a wonderful crew off stage, and we are extremely lucky to have the best of the best when it comes to this.

Directed by the wonderful Dan Lawrie, this hilarious musical is sure to be a crowd favourite!

A down-on-his-luck Broadway producer, Max Bialystock, and his mild-mannered accountant, Leo Bloom, come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (who are all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars.

The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they manoeuvre their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime for Hitler”), hiring a terrible director, raising the money, and finally putting on their awful musical is a lesson in broad comic construction.

At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends.

With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks, “The Producers” skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!”

Tickets for the show are already selling fast! Be sure to purchase yours via Try Booking, www.leongathalyric.com.au, or by calling 0490 525 482.

We are so appreciative of the wonderful support we get show after show from our audiences and sponsor partners.

We can’t wait to see you at Leongatha Lyric Theatre’s production of “The Producers”.

This is certainly one not to be
missed.
