The bands come roaring back to Archies Creek

Davey Lane lead guitarist of You Am I fires up for a big night at Archies Creek on Saturday.

THE Archies Creek Hotel was absolutely roaring on Saturday night as You Am I band members Tim Rogers, Davey Lane, Andy Kent and Rusty Hopkinson got into their work.

Piercing guitar riffs from Lane, a deeply throbbing tempo by Kent and a hard-rolling beat from Hopkinson filled the town, setting up the powerful vocals of Rogers, coming in over the top… and that was just during practice!

It was right in the middle of the first big weekend of the season at the Archies Creek Hotel with one of Australia’s most enduring lineups joined by emerging southern boogie superstars Sweet Talk and power trio Stepmother.

On Sunday, they were changing down a few gears with the return of Dog Trumpet featuring ex-Mentals stalwarts Reg Mombassa and Peter O'doherty on their Shadowland Tour.

Reg and Pete were also launching the new biography of Mental As Anything aptly titled 'Started Out Drinking Beer'.

During the past week, the Archies Creek Hotel and Caravan Club Music, as well as the Meeniyan Town Hall took out major awards at the annual Music Victoria Awards; Archies Creek for the Best Regional Venue (over 50 gigs) and Meeniyan Hall for the Best Regional Venue (under 50 gigs).

It was a delighted co-owner of Archies Creek Hotel, Peter Foley, on behalf of his partners Mary Howlett and Sue Foley, that thanked locals for their support.

“It's just so humbling that so many of our supporters navigated the tricky landscape of the Music Victoria website to register a vote and get us up for the second straight year to win 'Best Regional Venue’ award,” said Peter.

“Also, huge congrats are in order for our Gippsland cousins across there at Meeniyan, who snagged 'Best Regional Venue under 50 gigs'.

“We drove to the awards night with Rod Murray from Lyrebird Arts and I must say that homeward bound, there was a quiet feeling of contentment as we parked our two trophies on the dashboard and pointed the little VW Golf towards paradise on the Bass Coast.

“Thanks to everyone for your support.”
