JUST in time for Christmas, a new book with a distinctly local flavour will go one sale in early December.
Recipes for Recovery is an initiative of the Fish Creek Football Netball Club and a fundraiser for the rebuilding effort after an arson attack destroyed its clubrooms in November last year.
Funded in part by a Gardiner Dairy Foundation grant, the book is a 112-page full-colour compilation of favourite recipes from the families that have built the club over generations and others who have called Fish Creek home in more recent times.
From soups, starters and salads, through to main meals, desserts, baked treats, jams and preserves, there is something to appeal to all taste buds.
Coordinators Anna Stefani and Sharon Wright said the idea for the recipe book came about soon after the fire.
“We were catering for an event, and we were all still reeling from the loss of over a century of club photos, memorabilia, honour boards and trophies,” Anna said.
“Someone mentioned that we should start recording all the recipes our families had made for club functions over the years before they too were lost, and that’s where it all started.
“We had quite a few recipes contributed to by multiple people, which speaks to the generosity of people who shared family favourites beyond their own kitchens,” she said.
A striking front cover has been created courtesy of an iconic image of the town, generously donated by Andrew and Domenica from Wallace and Wallace Sculpture and Photography in Fish Creek.
The book will be available for sale in some Fish Creek businesses, or directly from the club for $35 each plus postage (if required).

In other news, the rebuild sub-committee continues to work towards developing a new facility that will service not only the club but the wider community.
Committee member Megan Vuillermin said support for the project from other organisations in and around Fish Creek was encouraging and motivated the group to keep working through the various steps.
“A project of this scale requires consideration of so many factors, and in order to tick off every obligation there are many meetings with council officers, surveyors, draftspeople, state government departments and sporting bodies,” Megan said.
“We are also continuing to seek more funding by lobbying government and applying for grants, but we know when we break ground on the new building all the hard work and effort will be worth it.”
Separate from the rebuild program the club has several major events coming up including the annual camp draft, which will be staged at Yanakie on December 7-8 and a car show on February 23, 2025.
The camp draft has been a major fundraiser for the club for many years with competitors from near and far providing plenty of action for spectators, and with food and drinks available for sale, will be a great day out.
New to the event calendar is the car show, which is being run in conjunction with the Gippsland Historical Automobile Club at Terrill Park, with Community Branch Foster and Toora Bendigo Bank as the major sponsors.
