LEONGATHA’S world champion high jumper Eleanor Patterson added to her accolades recently, being named the recipient of the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ honour at the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) Awards on Friday.
The Outstanding Achievement award is named after Ian Thorpe AM.
“I didn’t expect this with such amazing finalists, and I’m honoured to be recognised,” Patterson said.
The award recognised her achievement in winning gold in Eugene, USA, becoming the first Australian to win a high jump world title.
While Patterson is Leongatha raised and a product of the town’s Little Athletics club, she is a NSWIS scholarship holder.
She recently visited Leongatha Little Athletics club, to the delight of its young athletes who were thrilled to hear from her and see her gold medal.
