Blue ribbon finish to the WLSC nippers competition

1 min read

FIVE-time blue ribbon finalist Eddie knows what it feels like to be a winner.

The U7 junior champion won all five events in his age group taking blue ribbons in the board paddle, swim, sprint, beach flags and diving at the annual Wonthaggi Life Saving Club Nipper Championships.

The WLSC Nippers program aims to provide a safe and friendly environment where both juniors and parents can learn and enhance their knowledge about surf lifesaving and water safety.

The Nippers program is open to all children aged five to 13 years of age.

Nippers who complete a set of age group determined activities are awarded a nationally recognised SLSA certificate at the end of the Nipper season.

Skills taught in the nippers program include surf awareness, increased confidence on the beach, how to be sun smart and making new friends in a positive non-threatening environment.

The Wonthaggi Life Saving Club championships for Nippers are conducted by Juniors Coordinator Tara Scott with assistance from parents and water safety volunteer Kerie Allen.

Parents were encouraged to assist with the Nippers program and were kept busy marshalling and coordinating each event.
