‘Outstanding’ second for Newhaven College’s MTB team

1 min read

THE Newhaven College Mountain Bike Team competed in the Rocky Trail Academy MTB School Enduro Series at the Haunted Hills Bike Park on Friday, October 28.

Thirteen students from Year 5 to Year 11 challenged themselves across three timed stages, which were designed to test a variety of skills, including endurance, speed and technical ability. Riders descended each stage multiple times, with their fastest time counting for a combined best overall ranking.

Despite the wet and challenging conditions, the team achieved some fantastic results, which ultimately resulted in Newhaven College placing second overall.

Year 5 student Kody Lewis stole the show after bringing home an impressive 1st place in the Year 5/6 category - an outstanding achievement for his second ever competitive event.

Year 11 student Kade Rigby also came 3rd in the Year 11/12 category, having already placed 1st and 3rd in the Alpinestars Interschool MTB series earlier in the year.

With strong performances from Hamish Dakers-Hock, Hayden Fenwick, Hugo Wright and Rufus Hollole, the Newhaven MTB team had five students finish in the top ten in the Years 5/6 category.

With the rain creating slippery conditions, the Year 7/8 students also showed that the college has some really capable riders in this cohort, in what is the most popular category.

The second placed school overall is an outstanding result for the Newhaven College MTB Team, winning against multiple Victorian schools with larger showings and established mountain biking programs.

All of our riders enjoyed this style of racing, and the team is looking forward to the next two events in this series, in Silvan and Mt Buller early next year.
