CRANBOURNE trainer Jason Evans and jockey Melinda McDonald both had reason to celebrate at Woolamai on Saturday when 7yo bay mare Sacra narrowly won Horse of the Year in a countback from Colac trained Here’s to Jane.
Sacra and Here’s To Jane have both been multiple winners at Woolamai.
The final points for Horse of the Year depended on Here’s To Jane’s finish in Race 4.
Ridden by Rowan Cox ‘Here’s to Jane’ needed a win in Race 4 to secure Horse of the Year but was placed 3rd to Bluet De France and Persuasive Star.
Sacra has five race career wins including Race 2 at Woolamai on Saturday the Open Trophy Handicap ridden by Melinda McDonald.
Dylan Dean won Jockey of the Year winning Race 6 at Woolamai on Maid on Stryke.
Trainer of the Year was awarded to Sale based trainer Troy Kilgower who was unlucky to finish unplaced to Sacra in Race 2 at Woolamai on Saturday.
Woolamai Race Club Secretary Abby Boyle was thrilled with the large crowd of over 700 attending the Phillip Island Health Hub Woolamai charity race day in perfect weather for the last race day of the year.
“We hope to raise $3,000 for the Phillip Island Health Hub,” said Ms Boyle.
Fashions on the Field was won by Niki Howells-Schramm of Hawthorn.
