Wonthaggi’s new golf driving range gets a workout

THE Wonthaggi Golf Club has rolled out the “green carpet” at the local golf course, with the opening of a new golf driving range.

The facility opened recently and has already been attracting a lot of players, members and visitors alike, practising their swings, their bag of clubs and measuring their distances.

It’s been a winner.

President of the Wonthaggi Golf Club Robbie Geyer kept members and friends up to date with the development of the driving range on social media.

“We have cemented, artificially grassed the surface and installed bays for members and fee-paying players,” Mr Geyer said.

“We will be starting a commercial operation to increase our financial stability and provide up-to-date facilities for golfers.

“Balls can be purchased at the reasonable rate of $10 ($15 non-members) for a large bucket of 100 balls and $5 ($10 non members) for a small bucket of 45 balls.”

For insurance purposes, all people using the driving range must purchase range balls from the Golf Shop.

“It’s open now and we’ve had quite a lot of people out there giving it a go,” said Robbie Geyer.

“It’s going well, and we’d certainly encourage anyone at all to come down and give it a try.”

Mr Geyer said the club has purchased ball collecting equipment and collection of golf balls will be carried out every evening.

Fairway woods and irons are allowed on the range.

So, get out there and give it a go.

The club has set up the land available beside the first fairway for the driving range and it makes a great addition to the club.
