AFTER the controversy surrounding a 2019 plan to turn Newhaven’s neighbourhood park, Graydens Reserve, into a regional skate facility and the loss of $650,000 SRV grant, the Bass Coast Shire Council has produced a new plan.
The plan, which still features a small skatepark among minimal changes to the reserve will go to this Wednesday’s council meeting for approval.
The half-court feature remains with new line-marking, netball ring and soccer goal added.
The public toilet remains, as does the existing rotunda and play space.
Car parking will remain
informal on a gravel surface.
Every effort has been made to retain as much grassed area as possible.
The master plan document also notes future Regional Roads Victoria plans to upgrade the Forrest Avenue-Phillip Island Road intersection with a dual-lane roundabout dictating that the improvements to the park need to remain within the existing boundary.
The works are estimated to cost between $800,000 and $1,000,000. If council adopts the new plan, the project will go into final planning and design for it to be ‘shovel ready’ ahead of funding advocacy.
