LIBERAL Senator for Victoria, Senator the Hon Jane Hume, and Local Liberal candidate for Monash, Mary Aldred have made two announcements this week, one showing the support of a rebuild of the Fish Creek Football and Netball Club rooms through a $1.5 million commitment, and two, the upgrade of Walter Tuck Reserve in Mirboo North, with a $5 million contribution to replace outdated facilities.
Liberal Senator for Victoria, Senator the Hon Jane Hume, said this announcement for Walter Tuck Reserve will support a community who have said loud and clear that existing facilities are failing to meet local needs. The funding will include replacing the inadequate change rooms, strengthening the facility’s role as a community and emergency hub.
“As a designated emergency relief centre for Mirboo North and surrounds, it is vital that this facility be fit for purpose, but yet its current infrastructure is failing to meet community needs.
“The project will boost female sports participation, disaster preparedness, and local engagement, ensuring the reserve remains a vital community asset.
“This facility has historically played a key role in disaster recovery, and only Mary Aldred and the Coalition will be able to deliver this important upgrade for the community who relies on it.
Local Liberal candidate for Monash, Mary Aldred, welcomed the announcements, as projects she has been fighting for.
“Walter Tuck Reserve is more than just a sporting facility, it is the heart of Mirboo North, bringing people together for sports, community events, and emergency response efforts.
Mirboo North Football Netball Club President, Andy McCarthy, said this was a well needed investment that will benefit the whole community, especially women.
“Mirboo North Football Netball Club is extremely grateful for this commitment to upgrade our changeroom and facilities.
“Our town is still reeling from the devastating storm cell event last February, and this upgrade will provide a safe place for our community to gather if another event should happen in the future.
“The addition of women’s changerooms will also benefit our female sportspeople, umpires and volunteers, and encourage them to participate in our various sporting clubs in greater numbers.” Mr McCarthy said.
This followed the announcement of the Fish Creek FNC so that the club can return to normal club operations, with fully functioning facilities; a key priority of this tight-knit community.
Local Liberal candidate for Monash, Mary Aldred said, “I’ve heard from countless members of the local community and the Fish Creek FNC about the need for this rebuild after the rooms were destroyed by fire in November 2023.”
“This investment in Fish Creek will restore a vital community asset. Including men’s and women’s changing rooms, and social spaces for the Club.
“This project demonstrates that only the Liberal Party can deliver for our local communities.”
Fish Creek Football and Netball Club Rebuild Committee member, Megan Vuillermin, was thankful for the funding commitment.
“We are so very grateful for the commitment from Mary Aldred and Shadow Finance Minister, Sentator Jane Hume.
These commitments are part of the Coalition’s plan to strengthen local communities and get Australia back on track.
