OMK Pink stumps day raises over $50K

2 min read

WHAT could be better than champagne, good food and company? Doing it all for charity in pink!
The annual OMK pink stumps day once again raised a whopping $51,099 for the McGrath Foundation while promoting breast cancer awareness.
Now in its 10th year, the event continues to grow in popularity with more than 200 attendees from far and wide on Saturday February 15, at the Outtrim recreation reserve.
The fundraiser often holds a personal significance for many who’ve been impacted by cancer, whether through their own journey, a close relative or friend.
Organisers were thrilled with this year’s event which featured the McGrath Foundation’s ambassador and director Tracey Bevan.
“She was Jane McGrath's best friend and when Jane was first diagnosed with cancer, she was there all through the way, and the two of them together decided they would do some fundraising and it's grown into what it is now,” organiser Andrea Curtis said.
“She also recognised that we're the highest fundraiser in Australia.”
Andrea highlighted the event featured unique items to mark their 10th year, with funds raised through a raffle and ticket sales.
“We repeated what they've done most years and then added a few little different features as well to have more of an opportunity to raise more money and awareness,” she said.
“Every year the tickets often do sell out, usually within 24 hours, they didn’t take long.”
The event had visitors from interstate as well as several women from Warrandyte who run their own pink stump events and helped support the day.
Andrea noted they are also looking into ways to restart the cattle project.
“The way it worked is they would buy cattle at the start of the year and then agjist them out to farmers.
“They would (cattle) go to market a week before pink stumps and we would decorate the sale yards with pink balloons. It was really an iconic way to raise money but there was a lot of resources that go into it.
“We just need to look into a different way of doing it.
“We’re also looking to do a winery tour throughout the year and maybe even a shearing day.”
Andrea also acknowledged all those who help make the event such a success including local businesses who support it.
