Power outage after electricity pole fire in Cape Paterson

1 min read

POWER is currently out to 1303 homes in Cape Paterson after a power line fire this morning on the corner of Cassia Street and Surf Beach Road, Cape Paterson at 7.50am.

Firefighters from Wonthaggi Fire Brigade extinguished the fire after SP AusNet attended to shut off the power.

It's understood one of the arms on the powerpole burnt out and broke landing across other lines.

The cause of the fire is unknown with investigations continuing however powerlines along the coast can become susceptible to salt build up and with the lack of rain until today it's unknown if this may have played a part in the incident.

Bass Coast Police also attended the scene.

At this stage AusNet estimates power will be returned at 3.30pm.
