Spooky joy at Coal Creek

1 min read

A TERRIFIC community effort made the Coal Creek Halloween celebration a great success on Thursday, kids and their adult companions having a ball visiting the spooky treat stations, with the impressive bonfire another highlight.

All attendees, no matter what Halloween costume they wore, proved to be witches, the presiding judge appearing quite accepting of that given his companions were all witches too.

Attendees followed a map, answering questions on the back of it related to each treat station.

In addition to all the treats they collected on the way around, their efforts earned them a Halloween colouring book and pencils.

The book contained a collection of jokes for the occasion, such as “Why didn’t the skeleton like his Halloween Treat?”

“Because he didn’t have the stomach for it.”

People visited the ‘Spectral Spinners’, ‘Creepy Carriageworks’, ‘Corpse Courthouse’, and the ‘Devil’s Store’.

They diced with ‘Dr Death’, survived the ‘Chapel of the Ghouls’ and enjoyed more substantial food offerings alongside All Hallows Hub.

Korumburra Lions Clubs sold sausages in bread, with the local Rotary Club offering hot chips, the two organisations raising funds for the valuable services they provide.

Friends of Coal Creek president Roger Powell was delighted with the combined efforts of the community groups who made the event a success.

He also praised the contribution of the Coal Creek Management Team from the South Gippsland Shire Council who did an amazing job of preparing the Park, organising the trail and event.

There were 72 volunteers on the night, many dressed in Halloween attire and all providing a joyful experience for the approximately 900 children and 600 adults who attended.

Eight community clubs contributed to the $2600 purchase price of treats for the children, with a further seven groups helping on the day.

Organisations involved were: Lions Club Korumburra, Rotary Club of Korumburra, Friends of Coal Creek, Korumburra Community Development Association, Korumburra Koringal Auxiliary, Korumburra Italian Social Club, Korumburra Basketball Association, A&P Society Korumburra, Coal Creek Shire Volunteers, Coal Creek Spinners and Weavers, Lyric Theatre, Men’s Shed Korumburra, Milpara Community House, Lions Club of Inverloch, and Korumburra Round Table.
