THE dazzling Korumburra Southern Lights Festival returned to the town on Sunday.
This year held at Coal Creek Community Park and Museum, the event was fully booked out with 5000 people coming along to enjoy the evening.
Since Sunday, social media has lit up with positive feedback about the event and the organisers were thrilled with the turnout.
“We’ve seen a lot of people really keen to share their photos and their experience. It’s been overwhelmingly positive, and we really appreciate the feedback we’ve received,” event organiser Shirley Arestia said.
“Overall, I think everyone had a great time. Everything seemed to come together well and there was a great vibe from the crowd.”
Entertainment on the night included two stages.
The rotunda stage featured a performance from popular children’s group the Mik Maks, which was well received by the festival’s youngest attendees.
Over on the main stage, festival goers were entertained by Brendan and Starbrina before South Gippsland Shire Council mayor Cr Nathan Hersey and Cr Jenni Keerie conducted the official lighting of the bonfire.
The crowd was also wowed by fire twirlers, illuminated puppets and neon light performers.
Shirley said a highlight for many was getting to see the Coal Creek buildings lit up from the inside.
“A lot of people enjoyed looking through the windows at the historical artifacts. It looked very pretty all lit up and it was great to see people interested in the history behind Coal Creek,” she said.
Shirley thanked Coal Creek team leader Kim O’Connell, who was instrumental in the success of the festival.
“Kim provided incredible support and really took the festival to the next level,” she said.
“We are also thankful to council. In addition to funding, council has been supportive in assisting us with paperwork, traffic management and volunteers. The staff really stepped up and were incredible.”
Appreciation was also extended to the food vendors, market stallholders and entertainers for contributing to a wonderful event.
