LEONGATHA’S Jacob Bolge is hitting his stride in the world of athletics.
Competing at All Schools Victoria and representing Leongatha Secondary College in October last year, Jacob placed fourth and was 0.04 seconds off third in the 100 metres.
The competition was held at Albert Park and was a great experience for Jacob.
He was selected for the tournament after winning his heats.
Jacob counts the 100 metres as his best event.
Jacob runs with South Coast Athletics and has loved being involved in athletics since he was five years old in the Leongatha Little Athletics.
In his time, he has reached a few long jump records and aims to better his sprint times to reach more records.
Although his focus is starting to shift to playing footy for Leongatha, Jacob is still thinking about the next athletics season come October.
He is planning to compete in All Schools once again come October and will be maintaining his training schedule with coach Craig Huffer.
“My goal is just to keep going and pursuing athletics. There aren’t too many people who are involved in running,” Jacob said.
“I really like the community behind me (at South Coast Athletics). It’s been good to see a couple of new people join in athletics recently as well.”
Jacob aims to head to nationals and aspires to complete the 100 metre sprint in under 10 seconds.
