Largest national SGB team head for the Gold Coast

1 min read

IT WAS a night of celebration Friday night at Leongatha Splash, where the 11 South Gippsland Bass (SGB) swimmers heading to the Australian Age Championships, were presented with the uniforms in a special night celebrating their efforts.

The team, consisting of Mostyn Lumsden, Zac Sherar, Will Simmons, Hayden Barnes, Cooper Quaife, Olivia Holmes, Claudia Croatto, Miah Roberts, Sienna Matheson, Rahni Matheson and Sophie McKenzie (qualified but unable to attend due to injury) along with coaches Dylan Muir and Caiden Gill, are looking forward to racing against Australia’s best swimmers.

With more than 2500 swimmers competing from across the country, it will be a competitive event and the team know they have a big task ahead.

The team, with five swimmers competing for the first time, will compete in a range of events- from 50m breaststrokes to 400m Individual Medleys.

Also there, was former SGB swimmer Josh Seignior, who currently works and trains in Melbourne, who is swimming at the Australian Swimming Championships in the week after the others.

He came down to chat with those competing and offer advice from his years of competing at the top level.

The fundraising night, with mixed ability relay races, lucky number competitions and a line of coins that went halfway down the pool, will help fund the swimmers heading to the Australian Age Championships, held on the Gold Coast from April 7-15.

After the meet, the swimmers will have a few weeks break before the winter short course season starts.
