SJD Homes donates to Deb Rielly Run for the Kids - on this Sunday

2 min read

SJD HOMES have recently donated $2000 to the Deb Rielly Run for the Kids, an annual event being held in Kilcunda on Sunday February 23.
Deb Rielly was a much loved and inspirational part of the Bass Coast Community who sadly passed away in 2019.
As a paramedic and with a love of people, and outdoor activity, Deb devoted her life to helping others and in particular young people.
In 2012 Deb created the Keeping Kids on Track Fun Run to encourage families and young people to become more active and get out and about in the environment.
Money raised from the event was put back into the community and especially for projects that helped support kids.
Construction Manager of SJD Homes, Kim O’Connor, was a good friend and neighbour of Deb’s and also worked alongside her in emergency management situations. They also sang together, sharing a love of music.
The donation is personally important to Kim, and it is also professionally important, as he said it aligns with the values of SJD Homes and what they do as a business, which is give back to the community.
“We love to be able support programs that help to get the kid that is sitting on the sidelines dreaming about playing sport but is unable to due to social or economic challenges, onto the ground and playing sport,” said Kim.
Frank Angarane who is the event coordinator at the Dalyston Football and Netball Club and took over the event personally and as part of the club, at Debs request when she became too unwell; with the name of the run subsequently being changed to reflect the legacy that Deb left behind.
“From the Footy Club’s perspective, we’re really proud to be part of the event and the connection with Deb Rielly. We're wrapped that SJD Homes approached us and have come on board,” said Frank.
“It is Deb’s legacy that we continue and part of the proceeds of the event will go towards one of Debs charities or one of the things she would have wanted to support. The family make a decision on where that goes.”
Barbara Slavin, Deb’s Mum commented that Deb was a strong, determined and compassionate women who loved the Dalyston Football and Netball Club.
“I think what she did and what Franks taken on is a credit to her,” said Barbara.
“It’s all about getting out there as a family, exercising and breathing that beautiful air from the sea. That’s what it’s all about.”
Everyone is welcome to join the Deb Rielly Run for the Kids, with tickets for a half marathon 21.1 km, 10km, 5km, 2km, Family Friendly Walk or Individual Walk event, and kids under 8 are free.
