U14s Semi Final: LKFC 3 v Phillip Island Penguins 1

WITH the weather significantly improved from last weekend’s wild wind and rain, the second leg of the GSL semi final round kicked off on Sunday, September 15 at Newhaven Recreation Reserve, hosted by Phillip Island Breakers FC.

Leongatha Knights U14s team were keen to secure the win that would see them progress to the league Grand Final and capitalise on a wonderfully successful season. Under first time Coach Aidan Hall, the Knights players have focused on developing their individual skills whilst beginning to learn game training skills as a team.

The game was conducted in great spirits with both teams putting strong pressure on the respective defence lines. It was a wonderful attack by Leongatha B&F player Noah Bowman that resulted in the first goal of the game for the Knights. However, the home team successfully levelled the score with their own goal towards the end of the half sending both teams to the break even.

The game play continued to be even into the second half as both teams demonstrated excellent combination plays moving forward as they attacked and some magnificent individual defending as they shut down their respective oppositional attacking runs.

Leongatha’s Noah Bowman once again found the back of the net with a quality attacking run to the excitement of the crowd. Knights’ winger/forward Mitchell Ellen also had a fantastic game, securing the match with a third goal for the Knights with a quality shot from slightly further out.

Congratulations to both teams on a wonderful match of quality soccer. Good luck to the Knights U14s team as they take on league champions Korumburra City at the GSL Grand Final on September 22nd.
