Wonthaggi showcases doubles tournament

1 min read

THE Wonthaggi Croquet Club held its Level Play Doubles tournament last weekend. A very competitive field of 32 players from Portland, Queenscliff, Mornington, Ringwood and throughout Gippsland entered.

For many, it was the first time they have played in Wonthaggi since the club has had its new pavilion.

As expected, all games were hard fought and skill levels were high. Division 1 winners were Chelsea and Jack Williams from Queenscliff, with Penny Morrison-McGill and John Carr runners up (Morwell and Mornington). Division 2 winners were Mary Tabrah and Stephen Beitz (Sale and Leongatha), with runners up Antoinette Green and Ed Chatwin (Portland and Ringwood). Special thanks to the tournament sponsors The Workmen’s Club and Haymes Paint Shop, Wonthaggi.

Many thanks also to all our members who assisted on the weekend with the catering, time keeping, refereeing and of course the tournament management.

Near future activities include the internal Hi/Lo doubles on February 20, a visit from RSL members on February 25 and Country Women’s Association on February 29.
