Outtrim Car Rally Scavenger Hunt to raise money for tennis courts

2 min read

THE Outtrim Car Rally Scavenger Hunt is a fun, family-friendly event that welcomes everyone to join in some healthy competition, interesting challenges, generous prizes and a snag at the end.

The rally is being organised by the Outtrim Community Hall Committee to raise funds for the resurfacing of Outtrim’s ageing, but well used tennis courts.

“The tennis courts are falling into disrepair so they’ve become a bit of a trip hazard when you play tennis. We’ve had a bit of a go at trying to fix them ourselves, but it’s hard, so it really needs a professional job,” explained Ian Curry from the Outtrim Hall Committee.

“When we do it, we’re going to do the lines for the tennis court and for pickleball. So that we can make sure that we get as much usage as we can. Because our whole mission is to get people involved and outside using the facilities.”

The Outtrim Car Rally Scavenger Hunt (OCRSH) involves teams of two or more, who are given a list of tasks and challenges that must be completed in a set time.

Each set of clues will be given in a different order and start times will be staggered; with teams having the chance to sit down and plan before setting off in their cars to solve riddles, complete tasks and find the right answers.

Accuracy, completeness and creativity are the ways to win – it’s not a race so clever teamwork is better than speed.

“They’re a great deal of fun for a family, and we were really looking for something that can be family-oriented or just fun with a group of people or a group of friends,” said Ian.

“We also can get people who are not necessarily quite as familiar with the local area, to have a look around and discover things that they wouldn’t otherwise know about.

“So, it’s a bit of an education and a discovery process.”

Ian mentioned that there will be some puzzles to solve that are a bit cryptic, so they have set up a helpline for teams to call if they get really stuck.

All teams must return by a set time, at which point the judging begins and competitors can relax, socialise and have a bite to eat before prizes are awarded.

The Outtrim Car Rally Scavenger Hunt will be held on Sunday, May 18 from 1pm – 4pm with entries closing on Thursday, May 1, limited to 100 cars.
