Vistors flock to Newhaven College open day

2 min read

NEWHAVEN College’s stunning 83-acre campus was on full display last Saturday, as they hosted their annual College Open Day. As one of the busiest Open Days ever, hundreds of prospective parents and students streamed through the gates throughout the day, to experience this fabulous event. Graduates from years 1985, 1995, 2005 and 2015 were also welcomed at Alumni reunions.

Open Day

Numerous family groups visited the College and enjoyed guided tours led by current student leaders, who enthusiastically shared their knowledge and love for the school. The professionalism displayed by the student leaders, some as young as Year 4, was truly remarkable.

Highlights included the Equestrian display located near the Year 9 Environmental Centre, where families watched some of Victoria’s best junior riders show off their skills. MTB Bike Academy students also displayed their skills showing off the specially designed MTB track built last year by students and volunteers. The gym was home to fun sporting activities, as well as displays on the school’s surf and tennis academies.

Visitors were treated at every location around the campus: enjoying the soft vocals of the Junior and Middle School choirs, always a highlight. Children participated in the Product & Design Trade Centre making little wooden cars and sampling delicious cookies at Food Tech. Science staff also provided fun activities such as making ice cream with liquid nitrogen. Budding artists were inspired by making clay sculptures in the Specialist Wing and were serenaded by some of the school’s top performers in the Performing Arts Wing. That’s just to name a few of the fun interactive activities dotted across the day’s program.

The focus on Newhaven College’s House structure and pastoral care was well received by visitors. Many visitors enjoyed watching footy practice matches between Phillip Island and Mount Evelyn on the expansive College oval.
For those unable to attend, Newhaven College tours can be arranged through the College’s Admissions team, contact Bec Anderson at admissions@newhavencol.vic.edu.au, 5956 7505 or book online through the Newhaven College website.

Alumni Reunion

The school was delighted to welcome back alumni from the classes of 1985 (40 years), 1995 (30 years), 2005 (20 years), and 2015 (10 years). They gathered for morning tea in the Senior School, reconnecting with long-term staff before embarking on a guided tour of the campus with teacher Melinda Kelly. For many, including the more recent graduates, it was exciting to explore the new and impressive facilities. For some, it was their first time visiting the Phillip Island Road campus. Everyone enjoyed the chance to reunite, reminisce and catch up.
