Expect an afternoon of thrilling action at the Woolamai Cup

1 min read

ROLL up as the racing peaks at Woolamai Racing Club this coming Saturday, February 8 where the gates will open at 11am for the annual Alex Scott and Staff Woolamai Cup.

The $10,000 Alex Scott and Staff Woolamai Cup will be run as the fifth race with other exciting activities rounding out a big day for the club.

The Victorian Wakeful club will again award a $250 prize for the best presented horse and strapper in the Cup field. The club is expecting a strong field for the Cup with a number of Balnarring Cup runners likely to contest the event.

Local trainer and well-known track curator Mal Watts and his wife who had third placegetter in the Balnarring Cup, the nine-year-old See It All, are likely to be keen contenders in the Cup as well as for the Wakeful award.

Hawkstone could also be trying to make it a cup double; after winning the Balnarring Cup, he’s hit form and could have a good chance of winning again.

The Woolamai version of fashions on the field with its formal and novelty categories is always a hit with patrons and last year attracted entrants in their finery from as far as Griffith New South Wales (NSW).

The historic track promises an afternoon of thrilling action, with weather forecasts looking favourable at a sunny 21 degrees, it’s shaping up to be an unforgettable day of racing.

The Trew Road gates open at 11am with the first race at around 1.30pm and the last around 4.45pm. Book online via the club's website www.country.racing.com/woolamai or head to the gate.
