ON THE morning of Saturday, November 4 last year, the Fish Creek Football Netball Club Social Rooms were targeted by thieves and destroyed by fire.
It was a devastating blow, not only for the loss of the club’s 37 premiership cups, honour boards, premiership team photos, some of them going back more than 100 years, and many of the premiership flags; but also for the loss of a much-loved community space.
But they’re fighting back and on Saturday, March 2, at 6pm, the club is hosting a not-to-be-missed Sports Gala Dinner, to raise much-needed funds to re-build and create a new place for the club, which is the lifeblood of a small but proud farming community.
The ‘Rising from The Ashes’ Sports Gala Dinner, which will be held at the Leongatha Hall, has already attracted unprecedented attention and support from throughout the sporting world.
As well as the dinner, and featured appearances by sporting ikons, there’ll be an auction of sought-after sporting memorabilia, holidays and corporate entertainment packages, including a cricket bat signed by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting.
The special guests include:
- Brendan Fevola, seven times leading goal kicker, two Coleman Medals and three times All Australian. His company is also donating all of the beer for the occasion
- Leigh Montagna, media personability and former St Kilda champion, over 250 games, twice All Australian
- Neil Balme, two-time AFL/VFL premiership player, all Australian coach and highly regarded administrator
- David Parkin, premiership player, premiership coach, AFL Hall of Fame
- Belinda Snell, former Opals World Championship gold and bronze medallist, WNBA, European and WNBL champion
- Kate Eddy, Melbourne Vixens premiership player, National Netball Championship player, vice captain of the Australian Netball World Youth Cup team 201
- Des Dowling one of Australia’s most versatile standup comedians.
The event will conclude with an auction to include the following lots:
- Cricket bat signed by Ricky Ponting
- Collingwood jumper framed and signed by the 2023 Premiership Team
- Fully catered suite at Marvel Stadium for any 2024 AFL match
