Allied health graduates on board at Bass Coast Health

A NEW hospital, a supportive team, and the chance to hit the beaches after work – what’s not to like about working at Bass Coast Health (BCH)?

The sub-regional health service for Bass Coast and South Gippsland has welcomed three Allied Health Graduates who will undertake their graduate year in the local area.

They will join our Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy teams, working across Wonthaggi Hospital and the Phillip Island Health Hub.

BCH Learning and Development Team Acting Co-Manager Daniel Baker said the graduate program follows a successful pilot last year.

“We are really excited to be offering a Graduate Year program in Allied Health. People can have a career pathway at Bass Coast Health by doing their student placement here and then their Graduate Year, before looking into ongoing employment opportunities, such as working on the ward or consulting outpatients,” he said.

“We have found the Graduate Year program works well with growing our nursing workforce and we hope the Allied Health program will achieve the same result.”

Occupational Therapy Graduate Will Rickards will enjoy the support of Clinical Development Occupational Therapist Jenna Davis throughout his 12-month program.

“I’m originally from Tasmania and completed my degree at Deakin University at Geelong. I love the surf beaches of the Bass Coast,” he said.

“I was also attracted to Bass Coast Health because of the fantastic new hospital at Wonthaggi and the staff were so friendly when I visited in December last year.”

BCH is pleased to welcome two Physiotherapy Graduates: Ashleigh Sartori and Lisa Lim. Ashleigh comes to BCH from Lilydale and with a degree from Latrobe University.

“I was looking to try somewhere new and I talked to a few of the Bass Coast Health staff at the Australian Physiotherapy Association’s job expo last year. BCH seemed like an interesting place to do my grad year,” she said.

“I wanted to be near the beach and Phillip Island, and look forward to exploring the area and rotating through the new hospital,” she said.

The Physiotherapy Graduates will be supported by Clinical Development Physiotherapist Emily Stull, who will re-join BCH soon.
